The Amazing Spider-Man: Exclusive Midnight Screenings at IMAX Theatres

The Amazing Spider-Man crawled back onto the big screen on June 29. Spidey fans witnessed him web-slinging and wall-crawling at IMAX Mall of Asia, IMAX North EDSA, IMAX Southmall and IMAX Cebu when the clock struck midnight on June 29.  IMAX Mall of Asia opened 24 hours from June 28 until 2:00 am of July 2 for this Marc Webb blockbuster.

The Amazing Spider-Man is still screening at SM Cinema and IMAX Theatres today.

In this Spider-Man reboot, Peter Parker tries to unearth the secrets of his past. In order to shed light on his parents’ disappearance, he begins a quest leading him directly to Oscorp and the laboratory of Dr. Curt Connors, his father’s former partner.  However, when he is on the brink of uncovering the mystery, Dr. Connor’s alter-ego, The Lizard, appears and wreaks havoc in the City of New York.

The Amazing Spider-Man also takes viewers back to the life of the web-slinging hero before he met Mary Jane Watson. It introduces us to the unsure, unassuming and gangly youth in love with the smart and charismatic Gwen Stacy.

Andrew Garfield, whose claim to stardom includes his appearances in Never let Me Go and Social Network, is scaling the wall as the Webhead.  His real-life sweetheart, Emma Stone whose films include Easy A, Crazy, Stupid, Love and The Help, plays Gwen Stacy.  Rhys Ifans takes the role of Dr. Connors, a good-hearted doctor who’s corrupted by the darker side of ambition.  Denis Leary plays NYPD Captain Stacy and the father of Gwen Stacy.

Directed by Marc Webb, the screenplay is by James Vanderbilt, Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves from a story by James Vanderbilt. The Amazing Spider-Man is based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.  Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are producing the film in association with Marvel Entertainment for Columbia Pictures. 

The film opened nationwide on June 29, four days ahead of the US opening. SM Cinema gave out posters, notepads, IMAX ballpens, shirts and other premium items to promo winners and movie-goers.

Prometheus : Now Showing at SM Cinema

One of the most anticipated sci-fi films from Ridley Scott, “Prometheus,” landed in SM Cinema on June 6. Warner Bros. Philippines held the Press and VIP screening of the film on June 5 at 7:30 in the evening at IMAX North EDSA.

Special Forces is an action-packed movie flick set across one of the world’s most breathtaking yet hostile landscapes. It chronicles the adventures of a journalist and commando officers as they fight to escape the enemy hounding them and survive in the savage landscape of Afghanistan.   

Elsa Casanova is a strong and independent war correspondent who is willing to risk everything, including her life, to get her story.  She was taken hostage by the Taliban warlord and is now facing execution. The news reaches government officials and a Special Forces unit is assigned to rescue her.  However, the team’s radio equipment is destroyed during the conflict, leaving Elsa and the elite commando force stranded. Now, the enemy is hot of their trail. Their only hope of escape is to trek across the rough mountain terrain for survival.  The dangers that Elsa and his rescuers face create a link that inextricably binds them together.

The film is the brainchild of the French director Stéphane Rybojad. It stars Diane Kruger, the German actress and former fashion model who is best known for playing Helen in the movie Troy. She played Dr. Abigail Chase in National Treasure and its sequel. She took the role of Bridget von Hammersmark in Inglorourious Basterds. She’s Ana in Mr. Nobody and Gina in Unknown. In Special Forces, she plays Elsa Casanova. Djimon Hounsou stars as Kovax, the leader of the elite Special Forces unit. Hounsou is a Beninese actor and model who first gained acting attention in Steven Spielberg's Amistad for which he received a Golden Globe nomination. He also appeared in the historical epic Gladiator, The Four Feathers, Biker Boyz, and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider -- The Cradle of Life. Hounsou received his first Oscar nomination in 2003 for his acclaimed supporting role in Jim Sheridan's In America.  He also appeared in the 2006 film Blood Diamond, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.  Benoît Magimel whose films include The Piano Teacher, Duplicity and Sky Fighters also stars in this film.

In Gone, Amanda Seyfried plays Jill, a kidnapping survivor. Two years ago, she was taken to a remote wood where she was put in a deep hole. Jill is convinced that the one who kidnapped her a couple of years ago is also responsible for her sister’s disappearance. And like what happened years ago, nobody believes her. Jill knows how the kidnapper works and without the police to back her up, she sets off to rescue her sister. The clock is ticking; she only has 12 hours to hunt down the criminal and save Molly. Will she be able to save her sister or will the kidnapper succeed in killing her this time?

Men in Black 3 is Now Showing at SM Cinema and IMAX Digital Theatres

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones come back to the big screen in the third installment of the action adventure comedy “Men in Black 3”. Men in Black 3 arrived at SM Cinema and IMAX Digital Theatres (IMAX North EDSA, IMAX Southmall and IMAX Cebu) on May 23, two days ahead of the US release date.  This installment in the Men in Black series is the first in the franchise to be released in IMAX. SM Cinema Hosted the Advance Screening of Dark Shadows

May 12, 2012--SM Cinema, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Pictures Philippines, held the advance screening of Dark Shadows at IMAX Mall of Asia on May 8, 2012 at 7:30 PM.  The event was attended to by VIPs, theatre industry partners, brand partners and other special guests.

About Dark Shadows

Dark Shadows is the movie adaptation of the classic TV series of the same name.  The film stars Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter.  Johnny Depp plays Barnabas Collins, the rich, powerful and somewhat libertine master of the Collinwood Manor.  Barnabas basks in his privileges as a master until he breaks the heart of the witch Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). Angelique cursed him to a fate worse than death, to lurk forever in the shadow as a vampire.  She then buries him. For two centuries, Barnabas remains entombed until he was unintentionally freed.  Now, Barnabas faces a very changed world of 1972. He returns to his crumbling estate and finds his equally shadowy family, the Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, Elizabeth’s brother Roger Collins (Jonny Miller) and his 10-year-old son David Collins (Gulliver McGrath), and Elizabeth’s rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard, played by Chloe Moretz.  The mystery goes beyond the family to David’s psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman, played by Helena Bonham Carter, caretaker Willie Loomis (Jackie Earle Haley) and David’s nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.

Tim Burton directs Dark Shadows from a screenplay by Seth Grahame-Smith. The story is by John August and Grahame-Smith, based on the television series created by Dan Curtis. Dark Shadows opened in theaters nationwide on May 10.
