Ronin, a fantasy twist in one of Japan's most celebrated samurai stories opens
at SM Cinema January 8. The film follows
the honor-bound exploits of 47 Ronin or masterless samurai in their goal to
avenge the death of their master.

by Universal Studios, the film is directed by Carl Erik Rinsch. 47 Ronin is
distributed in the country by Solar-UIP. It has been rated PG (Parental
Guidance) by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).
Keanu
Reeves stars as Kai, an outcast who joins the Ronin. Hiroyuki Sanada, whose
filmography includes The Last Samurai and Wolverine, plays the leader of the
Ronin Oisho. Kou Shibasaki, who raised her international profile with her
exemplary portrayal of the insane and ruthless student in Battle Royale, is
Kai’s love interest. The Japanese actor and dancer Min Tanaka is Lord Asano,
the warriors’ daimyo. Lord Kira, the one
responsible for arranging the killing of Lord Asano, is portrayed by Tadanobu
Asano who played Hogun in Thor and Captain Nagata in Battleship. Academy Award nominated actress Rinko Kikuchi
of Babel and Pacific Rim, is cast as a witch who serves Lord Kira. The Japanese
pop idol, actor and radio host Jin Akinishi joins the cast as Oisho’s son.
